![]() ![]() Creon shows mercy and banishes Oedipus, per his request. Queen Jocasta kills herself and Oedipus blinds himself by stabbing his eyes. The shepherd is called, and he said that he was supposed to kill Laius and Jocasta's baby, but he did not. Jocasta becomes distraught as she begins to realize. ![]() After sending for the witness of the murder, Oedipus admits that he was prophesied to kill his father and sleep with his mother and that is why he left Corinth. She says that her son was left to die in the mountains and strangers killed Laius. She says not to listen to what prophets say because she had been told a prophecy before of which her own son will murder her husband and sleep with her. Jocasta, Oedipus' wife, begs for Creon to be spared, as she knows he's innocent. Tiresias says that it was in fact Oedipus who was the murderer. Oedipus sends for the blind prophet, Tiresias, who refuses to tell Oedipus who was the murderer. ![]() Oedipus openly curses the murder and claims that he will find him and make him pay. Creon returns with news from the Oracle, of which being that for the plague to be lifted the murder of the late king Laius must be found and punished. Some priests ask Oedipus for help as he had saved the city before. Summary - Oedipus is king of Thebes, a city that is suffering terribly from a plague of misfortune. ![]()
